Chef's Note
Toasting your cinnamon in butter before adding liquid releases fat-soluble flavor compounds for a much deeper, warmer aroma.

Ingredients
2.5 cups quick oats
2 medium apples
2.5 cups whole milk
1 tbsp unsalted butter
1 tsp ground cinnamon
3 tbsp maple syrup
1/4 tsp salt
2.5 cups water
Instructions
- 1
Peel, core, and finely dice the 2 medium apples into small, bite-sized pieces (about 1/4-inch, safe for toddlers).
- 2
Melt 1 tbsp unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- 3
Add the diced apples and 1 tsp ground cinnamon to the melted butter. Sauté for 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the apples begin to soften and the cinnamon becomes highly fragrant.
- 4
Pour 2.5 cups whole milk, 2.5 cups water, and 1/4 tsp salt into the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
- 5
Stir in 2.5 cups quick oats. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring constantly to prevent clumping, for 3 to 4 minutes until the oats are creamy and thickened.
- 6
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in 3 tbsp maple syrup until fully incorporated.
- 7
Let the oatmeal sit for 1 minute to cool slightly before spooning into bowls. Serve warm.
