Chef's Note
To prevent the oatmeal from boiling over in the microwave, always use a bowl that is at least twice the volume of your ingredients. If you prefer a looser oatmeal, stir in a splash of warm milk right before serving.

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups quick oats
1 1/2 medium apples
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons maple syrup
Instructions
- 1
Wash, peel, and core 1 1/2 medium apples. Dice them into small 1/4-inch pieces so they cook and soften quickly.
- 2
In a large microwave-safe bowl (at least 2-quart capacity to prevent boil-over), combine 1 1/2 cups of quick oats, 1 1/2 cups of whole milk, 1 1/2 cups of water, 1 1/2 teaspoons of ground cinnamon, a pinch of salt, and the diced apples.
- 3
Microwave on high for 3 minutes.
- 4
Carefully remove the bowl from the microwave using oven mitts and stir the mixture thoroughly to distribute the heat and apples.
- 5
Microwave on high for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, or until the oats are creamy and the apples are tender.
- 6
Stir in 3 tablespoons of maple syrup, let the oatmeal rest for 1 minute to thicken, and divide into 3 bowls to serve.
