Chef's Note

To prevent microwave boil-overs, always use a bowl that is at least twice the volume of your ingredients. If the oatmeal starts to rise to the rim, pause the microwave for 5 seconds to let it settle, then resume cooking.

Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups quick oats

  • 3 cups whole milk

  • 1.5 cups frozen mixed berries

  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 3 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions
  • 1

In each of three deep, microwave-safe bowls, combine 1/2 cup of quick oats, 1 cup of whole milk, and a pinch of ground cinnamon (about 1/6 tsp per bowl). Add a tiny pinch of salt to each bowl if desired.

  • 2

Stir the contents of each bowl thoroughly with a spoon to ensure the oats are completely submerged in the milk.

  • 3

Microwave each bowl individually on HIGH power for 1 minute and 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Watch closely during the last 30 seconds to ensure the milk does not bubble over the sides of the bowl.

  • 4

Carefully remove the hot bowl from the microwave using oven mitts. Immediately stir 1/2 cup of frozen mixed berries directly into the hot oatmeal. The residual heat will thaw the berries perfectly within 30 seconds while cooling the oatmeal to an ideal eating temperature.

  • 5

Drizzle 1 tbsp of maple syrup over each bowl just before serving.
