Chef's Note
For an elevated version of this simple snack, I've added toasted almonds for crunch and dried cranberries for a tart contrast. The touch of cinnamon and honey in the almond butter creates a more complex flavor profile. To keep your apple slices fresh longer, especially for packed lunches, soak them in a mixture of 1 cup water and 1 tablespoon lemon juice for 5 minutes before patting dry.

2 medium crisp apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, or Pink Lady)
4 tablespoons natural almond butter
1 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 pinch sea salt
2 tablespoons toasted sliced almonds
1 tablespoon dried cranberries
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
- 1
Wash and dry the 2 apples thoroughly.
- 2
Core the apples and slice them into 1/4-inch thick wedges (about 8-10 slices per apple).
- 3
Place the apple slices in a bowl and toss with 1 teaspoon of lemon juice to prevent browning.
- 4
In a small bowl, combine 4 tablespoons of almond butter with 1 teaspoon of honey and a pinch of sea salt. Stir until well incorporated and smooth.
- 5
Toast 2 tablespoons of sliced almonds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently until golden and fragrant. Set aside to cool.
- 6
Arrange the apple slices on a serving plate or in a shallow bowl.
- 7
Spoon the almond butter mixture into a small ramekin and place it in the center of the plate.
- 8
Sprinkle the apple slices with 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon.
- 9
Garnish with the toasted sliced almonds and 1 tablespoon of dried cranberries.
- 10
Serve immediately, using the apple slices to dip into the almond butter mixture.
