Chef's Note

To make school morning assembly seamless, portion these into shatterproof, BPA-free containers. For your 2-year-old, mashing the blueberries is a critical step to ensure safety. If you want to change up the flavor profile later in the week, you can swap the berries for mashed bananas and a pinch of cinnamon!

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups uncooked old-fashioned rolled oats

  • 5 tablespoons raw chia seeds

  • 5 tablespoons raw hemp hearts

  • 2 1/2 cups plain low-fat Greek yogurt

  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk

  • 5 tablespoons pure maple syrup

  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries

  • 1 1/2 cups fresh blueberries

Instructions
  • 1

Wash 1 1/2 cups of fresh strawberries and 1 1/2 cups of fresh blueberries under cold running water. Hull the strawberries and slice them into bite-sized pieces. For your 2-year-old toddler's portion, finely dice or mash the strawberries and thoroughly mash the blueberries to eliminate any choking hazards.

  • 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups of uncooked old-fashioned rolled oats, 5 tablespoons of raw chia seeds, and 5 tablespoons of raw hemp hearts. Stir the dry ingredients together until they are evenly distributed.

  • 3

Add 2 1/2 cups of plain low-fat Greek yogurt, 2 1/2 cups of whole milk, 5 tablespoons of pure maple syrup, and 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract to the bowl containing the dry oat mixture.

  • 4

Stir the mixture thoroughly with a large spoon or spatula, ensuring no dry pockets of oats or clumped chia seeds remain at the bottom of the bowl.

  • 5

Gently fold the prepared strawberries and blueberries into the oat mixture, distributing them evenly throughout.

  • 6

Divide the mixture evenly among 5 clean glass jars or airtight storage containers (approximately 1 1/4 cups per container).

  • 7

Seal the containers tightly with their lids and place them in the refrigerator to soak for at least 8 hours (or overnight) so the oats, chia seeds, and hemp hearts can fully soften and absorb the liquid.

  • 8

Before serving or packing for school, stir the oats well. If the mixture has become too thick, stir in an extra tablespoon of whole milk to reach a smooth, creamy consistency.
