Chef's Note
For picky eaters who dislike the texture of cooked fruit, try grating the apples on a box grater instead of dicing them. They will melt seamlessly into the oatmeal during cooking, leaving behind all the wonderful sweetness without any chunks.

Ingredients
2 medium sweet red apples
1 TBSP unsalted butter
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1.5 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1.5 cups whole milk
1.5 cups water
1/4 tsp salt
3 TBSP maple syrup
1 tsp pure vanilla extract
Instructions
- 1
Wash, peel, core, and finely dice the 2 medium sweet red apples.
- 2
Melt 1 TBSP of unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced apples and 1 tsp of ground cinnamon. Sauté for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples begin to soften and release their sweet aroma.
- 3
Pour 1.5 cups of whole milk, 1.5 cups of water, and 1/4 tsp of salt into the saucepan with the apples. Bring the liquid to a gentle boil over medium-high heat.
- 4
Stir in 1.5 cups of old-fashioned rolled oats. Reduce the heat to medium-low to maintain a gentle simmer.
- 5
Cook for 5 to 6 minutes, stirring frequently to prevent the oats from sticking to the bottom of the pan, until the mixture is creamy, the oats have absorbed most of the liquid, and the apples are tender.
- 6
Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in 3 TBSP of maple syrup and 1 tsp of pure vanilla extract until fully incorporated. Let the oatmeal rest for 1 to 2 minutes to thicken slightly before dividing into three bowls.
