Chef's Note
For extra-crispy French toast sticks, let the bread sit out for 30 minutes before dipping in the egg mixture. This slight drying helps the bread absorb the custard without becoming soggy. You can also prepare these ahead of time and freeze them - just pop them in the toaster for a quick weekday breakfast!

Ingredients
8 slices thick-cut bread
3 large eggs
2/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup strawberries
1 medium banana
1 medium apple
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
Instructions
- 1
Cut each slice of bread into 3 equal sticks (you'll have 24 sticks total).
- 2
In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Heat a large non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter and let it melt.
- 4
Dip bread sticks into the egg mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then place in the hot skillet. Work in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- 5
Cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Add remaining butter as needed between batches.
- 6
While the French toast sticks are cooking, wash and hull strawberries, then slice them. Peel and slice the banana. Core and slice the apple.
- 7
Arrange the fruit slices on a serving plate to create colorful fruit dippers.
- 8
Transfer cooked French toast sticks to a serving plate, dust with powdered sugar, and serve with maple syrup and fruit dippers on the side.
