Chef's Note
For the best results, use day-old bread as it absorbs the custard mixture better without becoming soggy. You can prepare this casserole the night before and refrigerate it overnight, making it perfect for busy mornings. For a flavor variation, try adding 1 cup of fresh berries or 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to the casserole before baking.
