Chef's Note
For a quicker version, you can use pre-cooked pasta or microwave the assembled dish for 2-3 minutes instead of baking if you're really short on time. Adding a sprinkle of red pepper flakes gives this simple dish a nice kick if you enjoy a bit of heat.

- 1
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook 4 oz of ziti pasta according to package directions until al dente, about 8 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- 3
While pasta cooks, heat 1 tsp of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- 4
Add 4 oz of ground chuck to the skillet and cook until browned, about 5 minutes, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
- 5
Add 1/4 tsp of garlic powder, 1/4 tsp of salt, and 1/8 tsp of black pepper to the meat and stir to combine.

Pour 1/2 cup of marinara sauce into the skillet with the meat and simmer for 2 minutes.
- 7
In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese with 1/2 tsp of Italian seasoning.
- 8
In a small baking dish (suitable for one serving), layer half of the cooked pasta, followed by half of the meat sauce.
- 9
Spread the ricotta cheese mixture over the meat sauce.
- 10
Add the remaining pasta and meat sauce on top.
- 11
Sprinkle 1/2 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and 2 tbsp of grated parmesan cheese over the top.
- 12
Bake uncovered for 15 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- 13
Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
