Chef's Note
For a richer flavor, let the sauce simmer longer if you have time. You can also add a splash of red wine to the sauce while it simmers. To save time, use pre-minced garlic from a jar instead of fresh cloves.

3 oz spaghetti
1/2 cup marinara sauce
1/4 cup onion
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp grated parmesan cheese
Instructions
- 1
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil for the spaghetti.
- 2
While waiting for the water to boil, finely dice 1/4 cup of onion and mince 2 cloves of garlic.
- 3
Heat 1 tsp of olive oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
- 4
Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- 5
Add 6 oz of lean ground beef to the skillet. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook for 5-6 minutes until browned.
- 6
Season the beef with 1/2 tsp of Italian seasoning, 1/4 tsp of salt, and 1/4 tsp of black pepper.
- 7
Pour 1/2 cup of marinara sauce into the skillet with the beef. Stir well and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- 8
Meanwhile, cook 3 oz of spaghetti in the boiling water according to package directions until al dente (usually 8-10 minutes).
- 9
Drain the spaghetti and add it directly to the skillet with the meat sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly.
- 10
Serve immediately, topped with 2 tbsp of grated parmesan cheese.
