Chef's Note

For extra flavor, try adding a thin spread of mayonnaise to the outside of the bread instead of butter - it creates an amazingly crispy golden crust! If you're in a hurry, you can use pre-cooked ground beef from a previous meal.

Ingredients
  • 2 slices sourdough bread

  • 2 oz cheddar cheese

  • 2 oz mozzarella cheese

  • 4 oz lean ground beef

  • 1 medium roma tomato

  • 5 leaves fresh basil leaves

  • 1 tsp butter

  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • 1/8 tsp black pepper

Instructions
  • 1

In a small skillet over medium heat, cook 4 oz of ground beef for about 5 minutes until browned. Season with 1/8 tsp salt and 1/8 tsp black pepper. Drain excess fat and set aside.

  • 2

Slice 1 medium roma tomato into thin slices and tear or roughly chop 5 fresh basil leaves.

  • 3

Lay out 2 slices of sourdough bread and place 2 oz of cheddar cheese on one slice and 2 oz of mozzarella on the other.

  • 4

Add the cooked ground beef on top of one of the cheese-covered slices, then layer with tomato slices and basil leaves.

  • 5

Sprinkle 1/4 tsp garlic powder over the tomatoes and basil.

  • 6

Close the sandwich by placing the second slice of bread (cheese side down) on top.

  • 7

Heat a skillet or pan over medium heat and add 1 tsp butter.

  • 8

Once butter is melted, place the sandwich in the pan and cook for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown.

  • 9

Carefully flip the sandwich and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the other side is golden and the cheese is melted.

  • 10

Remove from heat, cut in half, and serve immediately.
